: an internet toolkit for community groups

Webguide.

Connect your community

A guide for community groups, iwi groups, and not-for-profit organisations

Introduction

Connect your Community. This Guide will help you use the Internet and set up and run one of the most effective community websites in the world.

We think community groups, iwi groups, and not-for-profit organisations will find this information particularly useful.

Read it here online or download a printable PDF (1.2Mb). You need the free Adobe Reader or Apple Preview to open and read a downloaded PDF.

The Webguide is available as a printed booklet. Currently it is available from local Citizens’ Advice Bureau offices, local Te Puni Kokiri offices, and most public libraries. We are exploring further options for distribution too.

Overview

There are three key phases for any project: prepare, launch and review.

Connect

Connect introduces the Internet for those who aren't really quite sure what it is. Its greatest feature is that it connects people to one another — and that can bring about great change.

The active web

Joining in on the Internet provides exciting possibilities and challenges. The active web looks at the possibilities, challenges and benefits of actively using the Internet to help your organisation achieve its goals.

Is a website right?

Is a website right? — assess whether or not to participate actively in the Internet, in what way and to what level.

Understand the web

Understand the web helps you plan and prepare for a website or other project using computer technology.

Develop the website

Develop the website helps you choose the right team, put the website in the best place and give it the best name. It helps you develop and launch a website.

Maintain, review, improve

Maintain, review, improve explains the vital processes which help you review and maintain a website. To make the most of your investment you need to keep your site up-to-date, measure its progress against your goals and improve it.
