Online Contact Management tools update
Last year we published an article on Open Source Contact Management tools in which Peter Davis of fuzion.co.nz asked for support for an application to the Digital Strategy Community Partnership Fund which would provide funding to help more users in the not-for-profit sector to take advantage of an open source contact management tool — civiCRM
Update from Peter in the comments: clarification, the application for the funding was made by Cycling Advocate's Network
The bad news is that, despite some letters of support, Peter did not get the funding, the good news is that he will be presenting the only ICT related workshop at the National NFP Sector Conference on 19-20 March 2009 at the War Memorial Conference Centre, Marine Parade, Napier.
His presentation is in Workshop 6 and is called New Media and Technology.
The session content will include:
- Open Source and Proprietary: what they mean, what they offer
- Contact management systems: what can you expect, what can they provide
- Campaigning: harnessing the energy of your constituency
- “My Facebook is all a Twitter”: getting to grips with online communications
- Comparing apples and oranges: sources of independent advice.
Registrations for the conference are here.

Thanks for updating this issues. Just a wee clarification, the application for the funding was made by Cycling Advocate’s Network (CAN) (http://can.org.nz/).
Meanwhile a steady stream of organisations are expressing interest in using CiviCRM.
The latest version 2.2 which is just about to be released (already out as Beta) adds a much improved ‘case management’ feature, which would be of interest to organisations in the health and welfare sector, as it enables a ‘case management’ approach to be taken to issues. This can include assessment of the needs of the client, coordination of support services, monitoring, evaluation and advocacy.
An explanation of how it can be used can be found here. http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMUPCOMING/Physician+Health+Program+User+Documentation
