An excellent registration process

Its one thing to invite people to contribute to your website, add comments etc, but implementing that is another tale altogether.

For most sites the process is pretty bad, demanding that you click a link for the registration form, complete the form, then click "submit" ( a term that I find insulting at best) then wait for an email with a link that I need to click to get back to the site so I can, at last, comment on the story. By whicgh time I've probably forgotten what I wanted to say.

Which is where Seeking Alpha absolutely shines.

If you want to comment on a story you click the "comment" button. The site notices that you are not logged in and invites you either to do so, or to register with a name, email address and password and click the registration button.

At that point I get the comment form to fill in and add my comment to the page but it is greyed out and I get a notice saying "check your email to publish this comment.

Sure enough, I find this email,

Just click this link to publish your comment and confirm your registration:

Publish Comment

This process confirms that your email address is correct and you want to register. If you did not write a comment, please accept our apologies and ignore this message.

I click the link to confirm and the comment is published.

THAT is the right way to do it.

Welcome back to Groupings blog. Now that you are a regular, please feel free to comment on any story that you feel comfortable with.
